Kopete is a flexible and extendable multiple protocol instant messaging system designed as a plugin-based system.
All protocols are plugins and allow modular installation, configuration, and usage without the main application knowing anything about the plugin being loaded.
The goal of Kopete is to provide users with a standard and easy to use interface between all of their instant messaging systems, but at the same time also providing developers with the ease of writing plugins to support a new protocol.
The core Kopete development team provides a handful of plugins that most users can use, in addition to templates for new developers to base a plugin on.
Kopete is a big project which already supports messaging protocols like Jabber, ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, Windows LANs, GaduGadu, and SMS. See the communicate section of the site to contact us and you can also always reach the team on IRC (irc.kde.org, #kopete).

enigma² is a java2 compliant jabber client. It features plugins and tries to use as many of the core jabber features as possible, while still being a jabber client focusing on user friendliness and ease-to-use. Bringing together 'good old' chat program style and instant messaging features make it a real competitor. It has been tested on many of the main platforms, including Mac OS X, Linux and Microsoft Windows. This website holds all informations ready you need to download and run enigma².

Enigma² has been released under the General public license, the source code is freely available.
